Boutique bank PJT paid its people over $900k each. They like it there

PJT Partners, the boutique bank founded by Paul Taubman, is one of the best places to be in finance right now. Or at the very least, it’s one of the best-paid places to be.

The bank’s Q4 results, which were released today, paint a rosy picture. Revenue was up by 29% between 2023 and 2024 as a whole, with Q4 revenues specifically up by 45%. Net income was up even more – by 64% full-year on full-year, and by 105% between Q4 of 2023 and Q4 of 2024.

Pay shot up proportionally. From an already impressive $805k per person over the course of 2023, it paid its 1,143 people an average of $903k each for 2024, an increase of 22%. That’s twice as much as any major bank pays on average, per eFinancialCareers' own compensation report.

PJT also hired gradually over the course of 2024. It started the year with 1,012 people, an increase of 13% across the year. The number of partners, however, was more stable, growing by just 3%, from 115 to 119. It bought Dubai-focused boutique deNovo Partners back in September, and opened a new office in Munich in October, too.

As ever, PJT’s results came with a plethora of heartwarming (if a bit cheesy) comments from its staff, included in its investor presentation. “Everyone is here to see you succeed,” one employee said. They’re “willing to put in energy and time to cultivate junior talent,” too. “My team members are incredibly knowledgeable and eager to mentor,” another added.
