Millennium hired a senior portfolio manager from Schonfeld in Hong Kong
Becoming a senior portfolio manager at Millennium isn't easy. The hedge fund interviews 3,000 people per year and hires a small fraction of them for those roles. It helps to be coveted by rival hedge funds; Alexandre Yun, Millennium's latest hire in Hong Kong, was hired by two rival multistrats in the last four years before joining.

Yun joined as a senior PM focused on long/short equity strategies for global technology stocks. He previously spent two and a half years at Schonfeld as a PM operating the same kind of strategy, but most recently was sitting out a six month period of gardening leave. Yun also spent a brief 5 months at Balyasny, again focused on long/short equities; his six month garden leave period after leaving was longer than the time he spent actually working at the firm.
Yun seems to be playing the field after getting out of a long term professional relationship. He spent 16 years and was a partner at Cavalry Asset Management, the hedge fund of John Hurley, who has since left to become an ambassador for the US government.
More senior PMs may soon follow. Bloomberg reported last week that Millennium is set to close on $22bn of new commitments as part of its latest capital raise.
