Citadel's head of quantitative trading is now having a rest for full time parenting

It is not unusual for senior people at hedge fund Citadel to take time out and then to come back again. Fredrik Åkesson, a senior quant researcher there, took four years out before returning in late 2020. Edwin Lin, Citadel's head of fixed income, took a sabbatical last June and is thought to have returned. Now, Brian Murphy, the head of trading at Citadel's Global Quantitative Strategies group (GQS) is having a rest of his own.

Writing on LinkedIn, Murphy said that after working for Citadel for 17 years, he will be having a break to spend time with family and friends. Unlike Åkesson and Lin, he actually seems to be leaving Citadel though. Murphy describes himself as the ex-head of trading at the fund, rather than a head of trading on a career break.

Murphy, who is Irish and began his career in London in 1997 before moving to New York in 2009, also says he will be devoting his career break to full-time parenting. Presumably his children are not adults.

Citadel declined to comment. Murphy didn't respond to a request to comment. Murphy also said that Citadel is a fine place to work and that he would highly recommend it. This probably means he is not going elsewhere.
