Another rates MD left Barclays in London after resigning earlier this week

Barclays' London macro team has lost another managing director (MD). James Hackett, who had been there for his entire career since 2007, is understood to have resigned earlier this week. He was an MD on the rates sales desk.

Barclays declined to comment on Hackett's disappearance. Hackett didn't respond to a request to comment.

Barclays' London macro desk has a history of hedge fund exits. It's not clear whether this is Hackett's intention too. His departure follows various promotions on the macro sales desk last September. These included the promotion of Ben Mabley to head of rates and solutions sales, the promotion of Rumit Sawjani to co-head of hedge fund and systematic sales with Gwen Jing and the promotion of Punitha Rajah to head of UK real money sales. Rajah was only a director at the time but is thought to be one of the biggest earners on the desk.

If Hackett doesn't want to join a hedge fund, he could try Nomura. Filippo Zorzoli, Barclays' former head of rates and solutions sales, is now at the Japanese bank and had been expected to hire. However, Nomura said earlier this month that it's been having a "challenging" time in rates trading.
