A global, technology-driven investment organisation is seeking an experienced AWS Infrastructure & Compute Architect to join its engineering function. The business operates a large-scale, performance-sensitive technology environment supporting computationally intensive workloads across multiple global locations.

This is an architect-level cloud engineering role focused specifically on AWS compute and infrastructure services.

The position is centred on designing and owning how AWS compute infrastructure is structured , rather than simply operating existing environments. Candidates with previous experience working directly for major cloud providers are particularly relevant.

1. Architect and own the strategy for AWS compute and infrastructure services
2. Design scalable, resilient infrastructure patterns for large-scale compute workloads
3. Define architecture around EC2, compute fleets, networking, and supporting AWS infrastructure
4. Partner with infrastructure, platform, and research engineering teams on cloud architecture decisions
5. Establish and improve Infrastructure as Code standards and practices
6. Improve the cost efficiency, performance, scalability, and reliability of the AWS compute footprint
7. Provide technical leadership and architectural guidance across cloud infrastructure initiatives

1. Deep AWS expertise, particularly across EC2, compute fleets, and supporting infrastructure services
2. Strong architecture and systems-design capability — able to design infrastructure rather than simply operate it
3. Experience designing large-scale, production AWS environments
4. Infrastructure as Code experience with Terraform, CloudFormation , or similar technologies
5. Strong understanding of scalability, reliability, performance, and cloud infrastructure design
6. Comfortable working across infrastructure, platform, and highly technical engineering stakeholders

1. Previous engineering or architecture experience within AWS or another major cloud provider
2. Large-scale compute or HPC environments
3. Cloud platform or infrastructure architecture
4. Performance-sensitive or computationally intensive environments
5. Building internal cloud platforms used by engineering or research teams
