A leading international law firm is seeking an experienced Senior Counsel to join its growing Labor & Employment practice in Los Angeles. This is an outstanding opportunity for a seasoned employment litigator looking to take on sophisticated, high-exposure matters while working closely with a collaborative team that values autonomy, professional development, and client service excellence.
The practice represents employers in complex employment disputes and provides strategic counseling on a wide range of workplace issues, including discrimination, harassment, retaliation, wage and hour matters, reasonable accommodation, leaves of absence, discipline, termination, and other employment-related risks. The ideal candidate will have extensive litigation experience and the ability to independently manage a robust caseload from inception through resolution.
Key Responsibilities
- Independently manage a portfolio of approximately 10-20 active employment litigation matters.
- Develop and execute comprehensive case strategies for employment disputes in state and federal courts.
- Evaluate complaints, assess legal exposure, and formulate effective defense strategies.
- Draft, review, and respond to written discovery, including interrogatories, requests for production, and requests for admission.
- Conduct document review, analysis, and production in connection with complex litigation matters.
- Perform legal research and provide practical, business-focused recommendations to clients.
- Take and defend depositions of parties, witnesses, and experts.
- Draft pleadings, dispositive motions, motions in limine, and other substantive filings.
- Attend court appearances, hearings, settlement conferences, and mediations.
- Prepare witnesses and clients for depositions, hearings, mediations, and trial.
- Draft pre-trial submissions, trial briefs, jury instructions, and other trial-related documents.
- Participate in mediations, arbitrations, and trials, with opportunities for significant courtroom responsibility.
- Maintain proactive and effective communication with clients, providing strategic updates and litigation recommendations throughout the life of a case.
- Mentor junior attorneys and contribute to the continued growth of the practice.
Qualifications
- Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school with strong academic credentials.
- Active membership and good standing with the California Bar.
- Significant experience handling labor and employment litigation matters on behalf of employers.
- Proven ability to independently manage litigation matters from intake through resolution.
- Experience taking and defending depositions and handling court appearances.
- Strong knowledge of California employment law and state and federal court procedures.
- Exceptional legal research, writing, and analytical skills.
- Strong oral advocacy and negotiation abilities.
- Outstanding client service and relationship management skills.
- Ability to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced environment while maintaining attention to detail.
- Demonstrated leadership, sound judgment, and a collaborative approach to practice.
