Senior Data and Reporting Analyst

Metlife Brighton, United Kingdom
Senior Data and Reporting Analyst
Description and Requirements

The Opportunity

As Senior Data and Reporting Analyst, you will join our Data, MI & Automation team at an exciting point in our transformation journey. As the business continues to grow and our data capabilities evolve, you will have the opportunity to influence how reporting and insight are delivered across the organisation.

You will take ownership of established, business-critical Management Information while playing a key role in shaping its future. This includes challenging existing ways of working, simplifying and automating manual processes, and helping transition our reporting estate towards modern, scalable solutions using Power BI, Power Platform, and emerging data, AI & automation capabilities.

Working within a collaborative team of eight and reporting directly to the Head of Data, MI & Automation, you will gain broad exposure across the business, including participation in our monthly Data Forum. You will have the opportunity to influence change, work closely with a range of stakeholders and contribute to the continued development of our wider data capability.

This role is a great opportunity for someone who enjoys making things better, wants to develop their experience with modern reporting and automation tools, and is excited by the opportunity to help shape the future of reporting and insight within a growing business.

Key Responsibilities

  • Own, produce and deliver accurate, timely recurring MI and business-critical reporting to stakeholders, including maintaining and running established legacy Excel and VBA-based reporting processes.
  • Ensure the continuity and reliability of existing reporting while progressively improving and modernising the reporting estate.
  • Proactively assess manual and spreadsheet-based reporting to identify opportunities for automation, simplification, rationalisation and migration to governed BI solutions, reducing manual effort and operational risk.
  • Build, enhance and maintain Power BI reports, datasets and data models aligned with enterprise standards, with a focus on clear, effective and user-friendly reporting.
  • Use Power Query and Power Automate, alongside appropriate reporting tools, to automate data preparation, refresh and report distribution where this delivers business value.
  • Handle ad hoc reporting and data requests, translating business questions into appropriate reporting solutions and balancing these demands with recurring BAU delivery.
  • Partner with stakeholders across the business to understand reporting requirements, challenge them constructively where appropriate, and recommend solutions that improve decision-making and user experience.
  • Design and implement robust quality controls and reconciliations, investigating data discrepancies and working with Data Governance, IT and Operations teams to resolve issues.
  • Maintain clear documentation of report definitions, data sources, calculations, refresh schedules and source-to-report lineage, applying relevant data governance and metadata standards.
  • Contribute to report rationalisation by identifying duplicate, redundant or low-value reports and supporting their controlled retirement or consolidation.
  • Support greater self-service reporting capability by creating reusable, governed BI assets and helping users make effective use of Power BI and related tools.
  • Continuously improve reporting processes and ways of working, bringing forward practical ideas for automation, efficiency and better use of data.
  • Share knowledge and good practice with colleagues, supporting capability development across MI, BI and reporting activities.

Required Qualifications

  • Proven experience in MI, reporting and Business Intelligence, with the ability to independently own and deliver business-critical reporting.
  • Advanced Excel skills, with experience supporting and improving complex spreadsheet-based reporting; experience with legacy or macro/VBA-based reporting processes is advantageous.
  • Strong Power BI capability, including development of complex reports, data models and DAX measures, publishing to workspaces and managing refresh and distribution.
  • Advanced working knowledge of Power Query and practical experience automating reporting or data preparation processes.
  • Working knowledge of SQL, including the ability to query, join and validate data from multiple sources.
  • Experience identifying and delivering reporting improvements, including migration from manual or spreadsheet-based processes to more automated, governed solutions.
  • Good understanding of reporting governance, including documentation, source-to-report lineage, naming standards and controlled change.
  • Strong stakeholder management and communication skills, with the ability to translate business needs into clear reporting solutions and explain technical concepts to non-technical audiences.
  • Ability to prioritise effectively across recurring reporting commitments, transformation activity and ad hoc requests.
  • Awareness of emerging AI capabilities relevant to data and reporting, with a proactive approach to identifying appropriate opportunities to apply AI across reporting and automation activities.

Preferred Qualifications

  • 3-5+ years of relevant experience in BI, MI, reporting and analytics, with demonstrated end-to-end delivery of reports and dashboards.
  • Degree in a quantitative or business discipline, or equivalent practical experience.
  • Working knowledge of data warehousing, data platforms and source-to-report data flows.
  • Experience with insurance or financial services data, including claims, policy administration or customer data.
  • Experience supporting self-service BI and coaching users on effective report consumption.
  • Awareness of version control and controlled deployment practices for BI solutions.
  • Confidence using AI-assisted productivity tools responsibly for reporting and BI development, with appropriate validation of outputs.
  • Experience with agile methodology
  • Experience with Power Automate
