Context

Our client is a highly successful global equity boutique with over $25bn in assets under management. We are seeking an exceptional, experienced senior client service professional to join their 6-member client team. Reporting to the head of client service, this is a high-impact position with broad responsibilities at the heart of the business. You will play an important role in maintaining the high-quality relationships they are known for and delivering a best-in-class experience for clients.

You will have 15 years+ of proven experience at an institutional investment manager in roles such as institutional client relationship management, consultant relations, institutional marketing, product specialist or asset allocator.

The role offers significant exposure across the Firm and its clients, with opportunities to contribute not only to core client servicing but also to strategic initiatives, process improvement and wider business projects. The role provides the opportunity for the successful candidate to play a pivotal role in helping the Firm deepen its relationships across a broad and sophisticated global client base.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced client relationship specialist to further develop their client relations career in a boutique investment environment, working alongside a dedicated, high-performing team committed to continual improvement.

You’ll be measured in your approach, confident presenting to all levels of seniority at institutional asset management clients through all phases of the performance cycle, and focused on building long term partnerships with clients.

You’ll have excellent written and verbal communication skills and bring strong attention to detail and a proactive approach to your work. You take ownership and pride in delivering high-quality outcomes for clients and enjoy being part of a collaborative team in a hands-on, boutique environment. You’ll also have experience in mentoring and developing other team members.

You’ll be comfortable responding to changing priorities, approaching problems with a solutions-oriented, long-term mindset, and taking a hands-on approach to be able to deal with the full spectrum of client queries. Willing to turn your hand to a variety of projects and challenges, you are motivated by continuous improvement, with the desire to deliver a best-in-class outcome. You’ll bring a curiosity to test new technology in delivering efficiencies and bring fresh ideas for ways to communicate new and established messages to clients.

Key responsibilities and deliverables:

Reporting to the head of client service and working within the Firm’s 6-member client service team, the successful candidate will play a key role in providing best-in-class client service to a broad range of sophisticated institutional clients globally and assist in the management of the business. You will take ownership of a wide range of responsibilities, including:

  1. Develop strategies and engage directly with clients to help deepen and strengthen existing client relationships. In turn, contribute to client retention and improve the transparency with which the Firm communicates with its clients.
  2. Support the leadership, mentoring and development of other team members, and help the team to drive effectiveness and continuous improvement.
  3. Organise, schedule and participate in a regular programme of client and consultant review meetings. This will involve playing a lead role in client/consultant meetings and taking the lead on some of the Firm’s strategically important client relationships. The role will include some overseas travel.
  4. Build a strong working knowledge of the Firm, the investment approach and the portfolios to be able to communicate clearly and with conviction to the Firm's clients.
  5. Play a key role in generating materials and communication strategies that discuss investment returns, portfolio changes, business updates and ad hoc topical content.
  6. Contribute to written investment content, including thought leadership pieces, and supporting other functional areas of the business in drafting/reviewing written communication to clients. Manage general ad hoc communications to clients (e.g. investment or regulatory communications).
  7. Play an active role in the governance of the Firm's pooled funds, including reviewing fund documentation and preparing and presenting reports to the Fund Boards on a quarterly basis.
  8. Maintain a rich awareness of the investment environment and clients’ needs and challenges. Share these insights with the team and use this knowledge to engage thoughtfully with clients.
  9. Contribute to the preparation of management reporting, including perspectives on assets, flows, returns, peer group analysis, and client data.
  10. Contribute to ad hoc projects across the business as needed.

Key requirements:

Experience

  1. Extensive experience within institutional asset management in senior client relationship type roles
  2. Demonstrated ability to develop an in depth understanding of client needs and managing all aspects of those client relationships
  3. Comfortable working across multiple internal and external stakeholders and a desire to work in a boutique investment management environment

Skills & Attributes

  1. Strong interpersonal and communication skills with a very high standard of written and verbal communication and attention to detail
  2. Proven ability to build and maintain trusted, proactive relationships with institutional clients
  3. Collaborative team player with a positive, “can-do” attitude and excellent teamwork and presentation skills, comfortable presenting to and conversing with all levels of seniority at institutional clients
  4. Strong understanding of the asset management industry and experience of working with sophisticated institutional asset management clients and consultants globally across different regulatory jurisdictions
  5. Strong technical and product knowledge, particularly public equity strategies, and able to clearly articulate investment strategy and portfolio insight
  6. An understanding of total portfolio construction, asset allocation and market dynamics
  7. Desire to work in and comfortable operating in a dynamic, small firm and able to act as a second line of review across legal, compliance, operations and reporting outputs
  8. Excellent organisational skills, with a measured approach, and the ability to prioritise effectively and adapt quickly whilst remaining calm under pressure
  9. Proactive, solution-oriented approach with a keen interest in data, analytics and application of AI/technology to help drive a focus on continuous improvement and a willingness to receive constructive feedback.
  10. Familiarity with CRM, reporting and performance / attribution systems an advantage
