Head of Finance – Physical Commodities

Role Overview

We are seeking an experienced finance leader to support the growth of a physical commodities trading business in Singapore. The role combines financial control, commercial business partnering and finance infrastructure development, working closely with trading, operations, risk and Group Finance.

Key Responsibilities

1. Lead financial reporting, daily trading P&L, month-end close and statutory reporting.
2. Oversee physical commodity accounting, including inventory valuation, in-transit positions, freight, storage, demurrage and other trade-related costs.
3. Partner with traders and commercial teams on profitability, pricing, margins and business performance.
4. Manage working capital, inventory, cash-flow forecasting and trade finance arrangements.
5. Strengthen financial controls, risk governance, accounting policies and audit processes.
6. Oversee finance systems, including ETRM/CTRM platforms, and drive process improvements and automation.
7. Lead and develop the finance team, ensuring strong financial discipline and effective business support.

Requirements

1. At least 10-15 years of relevant experience in finance, ideally within physical commodity trading or merchanting.
2. Strong understanding of physical commodity trading economics, inventory accounting, logistics costs and trade finance.
3. Proven experience in financial control, reporting and partnering with front-office trading teams.
4. Experience managing finance teams and improving financial processes and controls.
5. Strong technical accounting knowledge and familiarity with IFRS and/or US GAAP.
6. Experience with ETRM/CTRM systems and strong Excel skills would be advantageous.
7. Professional accounting qualification preferred.
8. Strong commercial acumen, communication skills and ability to operate in a fast-paced trading environment.
