External Managers Department

The External Managers Department seeks to identify and develop relationships with best-in-class global investment managers to benefit GIC at large, while capturing investment opportunities to outperform our benchmarks.

We are looking for an experienced candidate to join our Global Markets team as a Portfolio Manager, focusing on Discretionary Global Macro. We are open to hiring at Associate, AVP or VP level, the mandate is the same, but the scope of ownership differs. The role is based in Singapore.

What impact can you make in this role?

You will help build and run a portfolio of discretionary global macro exposures, forming views, sizing positions, structuring mandates, and owning the outcome. Every member of the team is accountable for the risk they take and the returns it produces.

You will see the full global macro landscape, with direct senior-level dialogue with the most sought-after macro managers globally. You will also gain exposure across multi-asset, fixed income, multi-strategy, platforms, and fund-of-funds; your commercial range compounds rather than narrows.

What will you do in this role?

• Form independent macro views and translate them into portfolio positioning, manager selection, sizing, and risk allocation across the book
• Lead the thinking on correlation, factor exposure, capacity, liquidity and drawdown management at the portfolio level, and push for innovation in how the portfolio is built
• Originate opportunities, run qualitative and quantitative diligence end-to-end, and build the commercial case for investment
• Design and negotiate bespoke mandates, fee structures, liquidity terms, risk parameters and co-investment or platform structures; shaping how the exposure is expressed, not just whether to buy it
• Continuously re-underwrite the thesis, act decisively when it breaks, and make timely add, trim, or exit recommendations
• Take your recommendations to the Investment Committee and defend them
• Surface differentiated insight to the team and to GIC at large

What qualifications or skills should you possess in this role?

While prior fund allocation experience is preferred, we are open to candidates who have the following market experience, including:

• Portfolio manager, sub-PM, or analyst supporting a discretionary Macro portfolio
• Rates, FX, or cross-asset Fixed Income trader or Macro strategist on the sell side

We are looking for:

• Commercial instinct: you think in terms of expected return, risk taken and capital at stake, not just analysis quality
• Conviction under uncertainty; you form independent views, articulate them crisply in writing and in the room, and hold or revise them for the right reasons
• Quantitative fluency: strong financial modelling applied to real portfolio problems
• Credibility with sophisticated counterparties; you can hold a substantive conversation with senior investment leaders at the world's leading managers
• Collaborative ambition; comfortable building relationships internally and externally, and a strong team player in a small, high-trust team
