For our Shipping department in Hamburg we are looking to hire an

Intern, Shipping - Origination

Berenberg's involvement in shipping dates back to the 18th century. Over time, Berenberg Shipping has established business relationships with more than 400 international maritime shipping clients and in recent years successfully launched several private debt funds and separately managed accounts backed by institutional long-term capital.

As part of the Shipping Department within Corporate Banking, the Origination Team is a specialized and dedicated deal team consisting of two experienced colleagues with different backgrounds from shipping and banking. The team is looking for a reliable team player with a natural curiosity and desire to learn and develop. As part of the team, you will serve an important role by participating in the sourcing and structuring of various debt and equity investment opportunities within the shipping industry for professional investors. You will be exposed to work with senior stakeholders focusing on delivering high-quality work results in a fast-paced environment and asked to put your analytical mindset and structuring ideas to work.

What will you do?

• Participating in the origination and structuring of investment opportunities for institutional investors and alternative capital providers in the shipping industry
• Accompanying the entire deal process from origination to execution/syndication
• Performing financial analysis by using and enhancing discounted cash flow models
• Supporting the preparation of investment teasers, project reports and other marketing materials
• Preparing sector-specific research and regular shipping market updates

Who are we looking for?

• You study finance/economics/business administration in an advanced stage and have ideally made first experiences within shipping
• Previous internships in investment banking, consulting and/or shipping are a plus
• Able to work independently on defined tasks, while seeking advice where appropriate
• Open-minded with a passion for problem solving, while being used to working in a fast-paced environment and delivering high-quality results on time
• Excellent MS office skills, especially Excel & PowerPoint
• High standard of oral and written English is essential
