Android Engineer
DWS is seeking a Senior Android Engineer to join a high-performing digital team responsible for one of Australia's most widely used mobile applications. This flagship app is used by millions of Australians daily, providing the opportunity to develop products at genuine national scale while influencing the future direction of a market-leading mobile platform.

Type: ACN or Max Term
Start: ASAP
Length: 6-month initial contract
Style: Hybrid; 3+ days onsite
Salary: ACN up to $950/day | Max Term up to $210K package (inclusive of super)

You will work alongside experienced Android engineers, product specialists, UX designers, QA professionals, and security stakeholders to deliver innovative mobile experiences that are performant, secure, and customer-focused.

Role Requirements :
You will work alongside experienced Android engineers, product specialists, UX designers, QA professionals, and security stakeholders to deliver innovative mobile experiences that are performant, secure, and customer-focused.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and deliver Android features from concept through to production release.
- Contribute to architectural decisions and technical direction across the Android platform.
- Maintain high standards of code quality through peer reviews, testing, and engineering best practices.
- Identify and address technical debt while contributing to ongoing platform improvements.
- Participate in solution design discussions and API contract reviews.
- Collaborate closely with cross-functional delivery teams to ensure seamless integration of mobile capabilities.
- Optimise application performance, accessibility, reliability, and compliance with modern Android standards.
- Mentor and support junior engineers through pairing, knowledge sharing, and technical coaching.
- Clearly communicate technical concepts and decisions to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Extensive commercial Android development experience delivering large-scale mobile applications.
- Advanced Kotlin development experience within enterprise-grade Android environments.
- Strong expertise with:
- Jetpack Compose
- Coroutines
- Structured Concurrency
- Flow
- XML-based UI development
- Activities and Fragments
- Background processing
- Android permissions framework
- Deep understanding of Jetpack Compose, including:
- State management
- Recomposition behaviour
- UI testing
- Strong knowledge of Android architectural patterns, including:
- MVVM
- MVP
- MVI
- Experience implementing dependency injection and layered architecture principles.
- Experience working within large multi-module codebases.
- Strong understanding of software engineering best practices, design patterns, testing strategies, and code quality standards.
- Experience supporting and modernising legacy Android applications.
- Knowledge of Gradle build tooling, version catalogues, and CI/CD pipelines.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to engage technical and business stakeholders.
- Kotlin Multiplatform development.
- Shared mobile codebase experience across Android and iOS platforms.
- Experience delivering significant platform modernisation or architectural transformation initiatives.
- Exposure to observability and monitoring platforms.
- Experience with build automation and process optimisation.
- Wear OS application development.
- Android widgets development.
- Gradle convention plugin implementation.
