A rapidly-growing London Fintech is recruiting for a Finance Business Partner to join their London office as Deputy to the Head of Finance.

Role Purpose

The primary responsibility is to act as a deputy to the Head of Finance and a trusted Finance Business Partner to business leaders across the organisation, providing commercial and financial decision support, challenge, recommendation and insight into the business activities and performance to aid in the determination of future strategy.

In addition to these duties the finance function also provides the following services:

  • The provision of regular financial and management accounting information to enable the organisation to plan, forecast, manage and report the financial position.
  • Preparation of the annual financial accounts and key liaison with external and internal audit, as well as tax compliance.
  • Working capital management, forecast and planning.

Key Responsibilities and Activities

The core responsibilities, which may change over time depending on the evolving nature of the business, will include:

  • Ensure accurate accounting records are maintained to enable the statutory obligations of the organisation to be met.
  • Preparation and review of financial forecasts, stakeholder budgets and monthly management reporting, including;
    • Provision of financial planning and analysis as required by the Head of Finance and other senior stakeholders across the business.
    • Monitor, review and report on expenditure vs budgets in order to provide key support and challenge to senior stakeholders across the business.
    • Production of regular monthly management accounting information and reports for both internal and external stakeholders.
  • End to end management of planning, forecasting, performance management and reporting, costs management and control, data interrogation and analysis.
  • To support the month end and year end accounting process and financial close and to contribute towards the maintenance and reporting of key performance indicators
  • Preparation of annual financial statements, and liaison with the external auditors.
  • Supervise and review the accounts receivable process, with regular and insightful reporting to senior stakeholders.
  • Supervise and review of supplier payment processes performed by direct reports, to ensure strong internal controls and efficient payment of third-party suppliers.
  • Assist our external tax advisors in the production of the tax computations, and review and submission of VAT returns with the external partners.
  • Review and analysis of Payroll submissions produced and managed by Human Resources to ensure accuracy and completeness prior to submission to third party managed payroll service provider.
  • Other Duties:
    • Collaborate with Procurement and Internal Audit, as required.
    • Input into the company’s risk processes and procedures to ensure compliance with risk management and assurance processes.
    • Monitoring of adherence to stated financial policies and procedures.
    • Assisting with any other finance tasks as required.


Essential experience & knowledge

Candidates must be able to demonstrate the following experience / capabilities:

  • A commercial approach and understanding, with an ability to understand and deliver on the items that are important to the stakeholder set.
  • Line Management experience and a proven track record of providing coaching and development to staff.
  • Significant experience of providing an effective, reliable and best practice finance service that adds value.
  • Full management and control of an end to end finance and accounting system.
  • Excellent relationship building, negotiation and stakeholder management skills.
  • A highly motivated professional individual who is a self-starter and able to work without supervision, demonstrating strong time management and prioritisation skills.
  • Solutions focussed, problem-solving approach that fosters trust and commitment.
  • Good working knowledge and experience in dealing with all relevant accounting areas including external audit, preparation of financial statements, financial accounting, FP&A, management reporting, sales/payables, supplier management, corporation tax and VAT, payroll accounting, etc.

Desirable knowledge and experience

  • Experience of working in a digital/development and/or Fintech environment.
  • Preparing presentations to senior management.

Role specific competencies

  • ACA, ACCA or CIMA Qualified Accountant (with Financial and Management Accounting experience).
  • Line Management experience.
  • Expert level proficiency in Microsoft office, with track record of designing new and improved processes.
  • Experience of working in a multi-function finance team
  • Working knowledge of accounting systems (SunSystems, Q&A and TM1 beneficial)
