As part of its policy of transferring know-how to the industry, the EDHEC-Risk Institute set up Scientific Beta in 2012. Scientific Beta was founded on the principle of transferring advancements in smart beta research from academia to industry through investable indices. The academic origin of Scientific Beta provides the foundation for investors to access these indices with complete methodology and risk transparency at hand and at very low cost. Today, Scientific Beta, with almost USD 45bn in assets replicating its indices, is a major player in smart beta and factor investing.

As part of its international development programme and in order to strengthen its equity index development activity, we are recruiting a Senior Developer in Nice, France.

The successful candidate will be an experienced developer with skills in quantitative finance (calculation and back testing). A typical profile would be an engineering graduate from a leading school, with subsequent experience in software development, and a qualification or knowledge in a quantitative discipline of finance. Experience in a software development role in a financial company would be a strong asset for the position.

Under the supervision of the Production Director, the successful candidate will be in charge of maintenance, improvement and documentation of the back-end tier of ERI Scientific Beta’s software solution, which produces the thousands of indices that are representative of its Smart Beta 2.0 approach. He/she will intervene on the various layers involved in the platform, from financial data processing to index valuation and analytics. The position’s scope includes the prototyping of methodological evolutions and custom indices and their corresponding documentation and reporting.

The candidate will be experienced in safe development principles and techniques. He/she will use MatLab and SQL as development tools, in cooperation with continuous integration and testing, while supporting software reuse and refactoring. Knowledge of operating systems and scripts (Windows and Linux) are a plus. The position requires someone who is proactive and passionate about ensuring the quality of software deliverables, and who can communicate with the client services, operations and research teams.

EU work permit is mandatory.

The salary will be determined according to the Scientific beta pay scale, based on the candidate’s qualifications and previous experience.
